Yellow After Rain

The debut album was written between May 2017 and March 2018. All music and lyrics were written by Dylan Gearhart, Cole Kempcke, and Daniel Kuchar. All music was recorded by Dylan Gerheart. The album was mixed by Jeremy Wurst at Coyote Face studios, and mastered by Ed Brooks at Resonant Mastering.

"As their name implies, Yellow After Rain’s music is perfectly suited to the passing of an afternoon rain storm. The Lincoln band’s dramatic riffs synthesize visions of April showers rolling down your back porch windows, and its peacefully delivered lyrics conjure melancholic feelings of cloud-ridden stormy days.

The band manages to create this vision with a complex musical toolkit of unusual math rock time signatures and a steady grasp on music theory. The band markets itself to “musically knowledgeable individuals” and takes pride in its stripped-down and cleaned-up take on Midwestern emo music...

Yellow After Rain made its mark with its Oct. 11 release, “Condemnation.” Having only released demos in the past, “Condemnation” marks the band’s first full-fledged recording endeavor to date. The 11-track album exhibits the intricate instrumentals and poetic verses that Yellow After Rain has mastered in the past year of bandhood...

Yellow After Rain is a talented group of young musicians with a knack for building meaningful lyrical messages and beautifully complex melodies. “Condemnation” showcases those talents and more in a perfectly emotional — and catchy — record."

The debut album "Condemnation" was followed up by two singles: "Remind Me Again..." and "Salty Spittoon".

Saint Luis and the Bottom Boys

Saint Luis and the Bottom Boys is an ongoing project I have been a part of since the summer of 2016. The members of the group are Luis Castro on bass guitar, Ethan Hardesty on drums, Rhys Hansen on lead guitar, and myself on second guitar and lead vocals. This project has historically been more based on our studio releases, only having played a few shows through the years. Rhys, Ethan, and I have been in projects together for about seven years now.

We collectively wrote, recorded, and mixed our EP yeeEPee independently during a year span from May 2016-May 2017. The album was then released in May 2017. The songwriting credits for music are split between the four of us, with each of us writing our individual parts. All songwriting lyrics are credited to myself.

As far as recording goes, we combined our gear to make up enough recording equipment. All music was recorded on my 2014 Mac Mini using a Tascam M164-UF sound board. We used garageband to record, edit and mix the EP. For drums, we used a CAD base drum microphone set for snare and toms. We used an Audix D6 for bass drum. For guitars, we recorded through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Guitars used were a Fender Stratocaster, and a Gibson Les Paul. The guitars were recorded with a large-diaphragm condenser microphone. Bass was recorded direct input through an amp. Vocals were recorded using an Audio Technica AT2035.

The album was mixed to be accurate to the natural sounds of each instrument, and to give the impression of a live mix. Bass was mixed a little more heavy, as we utilize bass as a main voice in the project. The demo version of "funky fresh jam" was recorded in garageband previous to the album, using drum software for the drum track.

The musical side of the album is a more energetic, pop influence, with some layers of alternative and progressive figures. Various time signatures are used here and there to give a bit of depth to the record. The first three songs of the record focus primarily on this beach pop/alternative style of music, and those three tracks are juxtaposed by the driving old-school punk style track "yeee". Lyrically, the album varies from love, to growing up and moving away, to being an independent person.

Company 33

Company 33 was the first project I ever played with. We were together for a solid five years before splitting up as we all headed off to college. The members included Alec Meyer on bass guitar, Rhys Hansen on lead guitar, Ethan Hardesty on drums, Zayne Connatser on second guitar and backup vocals, and myself on backup guitar and lead vocals. Through our five years, we played many shows in the Lincoln scene, wrote original music, and recorded a demo, and EP, and a full-length. Isolated In Time was our only full-length record, which was released in 2015, a few months before the band split up. It contains eleven tracks of original material we wrote in our five years as a band.

We self-recorded all of the music in various locations independently. I personally edited and mixed all of the music myself, and we released the album on our own. All of the music was written by all of the members, with lyrics being written by myself.

Recording and mixing was done through Garageband using a 2014 Mac Mini and a Tascam M164-UF digital mixing board. We used a Gibson Les Paul and a Fender Stratocaster for guitars, played through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. Bass guitar was recorded direct input from an amp. Drums were recorded using a CAD drum mic set.

The mixing on the album ended up being fairly balanced, with a slight emphasis on guitars, as the three guitars carried much of the melody on the album. The drum was mixed tight to get out of the way of the other voices on the record. Vocals were mixed a bit higher, but still with the intention to blend with the guitar melodies. Most guitars were mixed to be crunchy without using too much distortion from pedals.

The musical portion of the album is in the style of angsty pop punk, with influences from alternative music. Most of the record uses multiple distorted guitars layered to bring depth and explore all possible melodies.

The lyrics on the album are spread between growing up, moving away from home, finding independence, finding love, dealing with depression, mental illness, and loss, and just being the person you are supposed to be.
